Swallows on the Shropshire Canal

On a long walk by the Shropshire union canal last week at Middlewich we ended up having a break on a wooden cattle bridge and there were lots of Swallows feeding on insects and drinking from the canal. Three newly fledged Swallows landed on a Iron guard that stops people climbing on a pipe which goes over the canal and is level with the bridge we were resting on. The bridge provided a great location to get some close up photographs of them with a green background of the nearby fields. A Canal boat passed underneath them which startled them and they flew off and landed on nearby power lines.
